Fading Blue

Fading Blue, embodies these concerns. Inspired by the unsettling beauty of oil slicks drifting across ocean surfaces, the project explores the paradox of “beautiful destruction.” The iridescent colors of contamination create an alluring surface that conceals ecological death. I wanted to create an immersive experience that does not merely represent this contradiction but makes it viscerally felt. Combining field recordings from Icelandic shorelines, underwater ambiences, and real news footage of oil spills, I built a spatial soundscape that shifts between sorrow and detachment. The accompanying visuals—stylized, almost painterly images of polluted seas—reinforce the tension between seduction and horror.

Kexin(keke) Jin

As an artist, I explore sound as a primary medium for its power to bypass logic and evoke emotion. My work examines the tension between beauty and destruction, surface and depth. In Fading Blue, inspired by oil spills’ unsettling allure, I create immersive environments blending field recordings, synthetic textures, and moving images. I aim to reveal contradictions that often go unnoticed, inviting audiences to question what lies beneath appearances. Through layered, sound-led experiences, I hope to spark reflection on our role within fragile ecological and technological systems.
