This 360° animation explores the impact of curated digital identity in today’s highly competitive social media landscape. Inspired by Erving Goffman’s theory of front stage and back stage, it contrasts the polished online self with the private, chaotic reality behind the scenes. AI-generated avatars perform in a synchronized virtual runway, symbolizing the flawless but hollow online persona. Behind the scene, distorted movements reveal inner conflict and emotional strain. As 3D scans of real human figures emerge near the end, the work questions whether we are losing ourselves to performance—or simply adapting to a never-ending show where identity is always in flux.

Rolin is currently studying in the Digital Direction program at RCA, with an undergraduate background in Photography & Imaging from NYU. She is fascinated by the freedom that 3D animation provides, giving her space to explore a wide range of topics such as generational shifts, dreams, and post-humanism. Her creative process is rooted in relentless experimentation, combining techniques like AI-generated visuals, CGI, photogrammetry, and so on. She enjoys narrating in an easygoing, open-ended way that invites viewers to engage freely and interpret the work on their own terms. For her, it’s about creating a space that feels open and welcoming—almost like a visual daydream you can drift into or out of as you like.
