The land, The body

The Land, The Body is a cross-media art project that explores how land can be reimagined as a vessel for memory, identity, and embodied perception in the postmodern condition. Rooted in the artist’s cultural background and personal connection to Shanxi, the project reflects on how urbanization and global mobility have disrupted our sensory relationship with land.

Through participatory interviews, sound mapping, and site-specific performance, the project constructs two parallel archives: one collective, one bodily. These archives challenge rational, standardized views of geography and propose a more poetic, narrative, and affective way of understanding land—as something not only occupied, but felt, remembered, and re-enacted.

Xinyao Li

Li Xinyao is a cross-media artist. Her works span various media such as video, installation, text, sound and performance, focusing on the interwoven relationship between the institutional construction of space and physical perception in the postmodern social structure. She attempts to construct polyphonic narratives among documentaries and novels, reason and emotion, technological space and concrete experience, exploring how art can inspire new social imagination and sensual ethics in the contemporary context where fluidity and heterogeneity interweave.
