Olfactory Empire

This project critically examines the hidden power structures behind olfactory control in zoos. For most animals, smell is a vital sensory channel, yet in human-centered environments, it is systematically suppressed. Artificial fragrances obscure animals’ original olfactory maps, disrupt their instinctive behaviors, and may even influence their evolutionary trajectories. Taking the London Zoo as its research site, the project constructs an immersive experience to reveal how humans reshape the living environments of others through sensory control, ultimately provoking deeper reflection on perceptual power and spatial domination.
